“Chakrubs”: Trashing Taboos Around Women’s Pleasure
2018 is almost over, and female masturbation is still a taboo. We read about sexual liberation, agency over our bodies, and the right to have sex with whomever we want, yet -absurdly enough- women exploring their own bodies continues to be a subject better left untouched.
When we came across Chakrubs, it felt like the perfect excuse to put this topic on the table. A project as beautiful inside and out as this one is just what’s needed to take the theme of sexual liberation to a whole new level.
As seen on their website, “Chakrubs are sex toys made from natural crystals that bring a sense of sacredness to your playtime… They are created with the intention of opening oneself up to the healing properties crystals provide”.
We know -believe us we know- it’s a lot to take in, but even if you’re skeptical about the metaphysical properties of these breathtaking objects, you don’t want to miss the mind-blowing chat we had with founder Vanessa Cuccia.
Vanessa is more than sure that the conversation on women’s self-pleasure is long overdue. “Sex has been one of the many vehicles used to take away our power as women. In our society, it’s natural to assume that pleasure is only relevant for men, and female bodies are something to be ashamed of”.
